Happy Birthday To The Notorious B.I.G.
If the Notorious B.I.G. was alive today (May 21), he would have celebrated his 44th birthday. Unfortunately, he is not, but the late rapper was posthumously honored with his own holiday in his hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y.
In honor of Biggie Smalls, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams proclaimed May 21 as “Christopher ‘The Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace Day.”
At a special event on Thursday (May 19), B.I.G.’s daughter, T’yanna Wallace, was presented with a proclamation along with the rapper’s longtime confidente Lil Cease.
“On his birthday, Brooklyn salutes one of our own, who has never been forgotten as long as his music plays,” said Adams at the ceremony (via DNAinfo New York). “His energy will remain and continue to inspire people throughout not only the borough of Brooklyn, but Biggie put Brooklyn on the map.”
Upon receiving the proclamation T’yanna said, “My family appreciates this more than you can even know.” Cease added, “Thank you to Brooklyn for honoring B.I.G. in a special way.”
In addition to the proclamation, Biggie was honored at the Bad Boy Family Reunion concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Friday night (May 20). Diddy was the ringleader as former Bad Boy artists like Faith Evans, Total, 112, Carl Thomas, Ma$e and others graced the stage to bring fans back down memory lane. Fellow music stars like Mary J. Blige, Jay Z, Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, Usher and more also rocked the mic at the star-studded event.
Happy Birthday to the late and great the Notorious B.I.G.!
